Biomass to Liquid (BTL) and Waste to Energy (WTE)

 

 

Biomass is plant or animal derived material that can be used to create energy or liquid fuels through advanced next gen scientific technologies that are innovative and start of the art.

Biomass is organic and the common feedstocks that are used to generate heat or electricity are plants, wood and wastes. Energy is typically generated through either co firing, direct firing, pyrolysis, gasification or anerobic digestion process. Through torrefaction, biomass is first dried by heating to 250 - 300 Degree Celsius and removing moisture completely. Briquettes so formed after the torrefaction process can then be further used for co-firing in a coal fired power plant or direct firing

 

 

 

 

Waste to Energy (WTE) or Energy from Waste is clean and renewable form of energy that uses municipal solid waste to convert it into steam or electricity.

 

Waste to energy utilizes household or similar waste that cannot be further reused or recycled. It converts these wastes into heat or power which can be further sold to the power grid. Thus producing sustainable and renewable green energy and reducing potentially hazardous waste in municipal landfills up to 90%

Most low carbon biofuels like corn based ethanol and soybean based biodiesel offer 20-70% higher net energy gain compared to crude oil derived petrol or diesel.

Pyrolysis is another process of converting biomass into energy by heating the briquettes at 200-300 Celsius in absence of oxygen. This produces Pyrolysis oil (biocrude or bio oil), syngas, and biochar which are all different forms of fuel and energy that can be further used commercially in different fields.

 

Gasification is yet another advanced process which directly converts biomass into energy at 600-700 Celsius ( 1300 F) in presence of oxygen to produce syngas (Carbon Monoxide & Hydrogen) and slag.

Anaerobic decomposition is a process involving microorganisms that break down the biomass in absence of oxygen. Municipal landfills, livestock farms and ranches usually have anaerobic digesters to produce bio methane which is a valuable energy source and can be used as a fuel.
